RESUME
Here is a pdf summary of Buzz Bishop’s work experience.
ABOUT BUZZ BISHOP
Buzz Bishop is so cutting edge, he bleeds pop culture.
He has 7 email addresses, 3 websites and several blogs. He Facebooks, Twitters, Flickrs and even Plurked – for a day.
When he’s not being all Mr Technology, he’s Mr Dad to Zacharie, Mr Husband to Jen, Mr Marathon for Team Diabetes and Mr Personality on the radio.
Not content to be stuck in an old media model, Buzz has long been a trend seeker to help radio grow in a new media world. Buzz is an ambitious self starter who takes initiative, doesn’t punch a clock and isn’t afraid to tell it like it is in an effort to find ways to do things better.
Buzz’s radio experience spans nearly 20 years in British Columbia holding every position on the radio clock and consistently bringing in top ratings for his time slots.
Buzz was part of the team to launch the first radio station website in Canada in the mid 90s. When Astral Media was launching the Virgin Radio brand in Vancouver, Buzz was a key strategist to build the user experience for the website and a driving force in building fresh and relevant daily content for the site.
Lately, Buzz has been focussing his energy on consulting radio properties on best practices and approaches to engage their audience, be relevant in their community and capture the imagination of their listeners through the power of social media.
Buzz is also a proud father and has created an online community for fathers called DadCAMP. The site, at dad-camp.com, not only encourages fathers to share parenting experiences, but also brings Dads and their kids together for monthly meet ups. Started in September 2009, DadCAMP is already a fast growing and vibrant community.
Silly piece of Buzz Bishop trivia? He has acted alongside an Oscar nominated actor. Yes, that’s him with the bad British accent working with Ryan Gosling in a feature role on Breaker High.
QUOTES
“Bishop is an information addict and pop-culture junkie — but you could also call him a media artist. He sucks up cultural information, reorganizes it into a dazzling format that makes listeners laugh and makes them feel smart.”
Father’s Day: Are dads the new moms? -The Vancouver Sun, June 20, 2009
“Buzz Bishop *is* a social network. He lives and breathes in the tech world 24/7 and knows how to build an engaged community around technology, social networking, and everything pop culture.”
Tod Maffin – social media maven, broadcaster, keynote speaker, writer (not in that order)
What did Buzz’s listeners think of his show? Check out their comments on Facebook when his departure from Virgin Radio was announced.
“Buzz has a ridiculous sense of humour and a love of all the weird aspects of the world that would totally strike me funny. He’s also incredibly quick and witty, and would come up with the right line at the right time, all the time.”
“The one word that comes to mind for me when I think of Buzz’s show is: current. He’s always up-to-date on everything, from trends/fads, to technology, to the obvious; music.”
“Buzz relates to all of us in many many ways. His humour and opinions are something to listen to. He is someone who walks amongst all walks of life and distributes a piece of him to each of us any chance he gets. WE thank him for such Spice.”
“Buzz reminds me of me if I were cooler and on the radio.”
“Radio personalities are not a dime a dozen. There are many who want to be be in radio but are not naturally cut out for it. Buzz has incredible talent. His personality you can’t manufacture. Its one of a kind and irreplaceable.”
“I listen during office hours and the highlight has been the afternoon show with Buzz Bishop which deals with current events rather than just Hollywood gossip – Buzz has always been relevant to the local community, and he’s funny.”
AIRCHECKS
This is an aircheck from Buzz’s final air shift on Virgin Radio in July, 2009. It’s an example of the kind of style he can bring to a morning show and how he works in a team dynamic on air.
Here are a couple of examples of Buzz’s CHR style, how he can work the phones, keep the music going and the energy level up when working on his own.
