“[Buzz] Bishop is an information addict and pop-culture junkie — but you could also call him a media artist. He sucks up cultural information, reorganizes it into a dazzling format that makes listeners laugh and makes them feel smart.”
The Vancouver Sun, June 20, 2009

“Buzz Bishop *is* a social network. He lives and breathes in the tech world 24/7 and knows how to build an engaged community around technology, social networking, and everything pop culture.”
Tod Maffin, Digital Marketing Strategist, engageQ

BIO

Buzz Bishop is so cutting edge, he bleeds pop culture.

He has 7 email addresses, 3 websites and 11 blogs. He Facebooks, Twitters, Flickrs, G+s, Paths, Klouts, and he even Plurked – for a day.

When he’s not being all Mr Technology, he’s Mr Dad to Zacharie and Charlie, Mr Husband to Jen, Mr Marathon for Team Diabetes and Mr Personality on the radio.

Buzz Bishop headshotNot content to be stuck in an old media model, Buzz has long been a trend seeker to help radio grow in a new media world. Buzz’s radio experience started in 1990 in Vernon, BC and since then he has held down every position on the radio clock and consistently brings in top ratings for his time slots.

Currently he’s the top rated midday host in Calgary on XL 103 after also holding down stints at 90.3 Amp Radio, Virgin Radio Vancouver, 95 Crave, and Z95-3. In the fall of 2014, Buzz was signed to Z95-3 as host of That 90s Show, which he does from Calgary.

Buzz was part of the team to launch the first radio station website in Canada in the mid 90s. When Astral Media was launching the Virgin Radio brand in Vancouver, Buzz was a key strategist to build the user experience for the website and a driving force in building fresh and relevant daily content for the site.

Buzz’s television experience started when he and his family were contestants on Second Honeymoon in the 80s (they lost). From there he went on to be a stringer for YTV’s Rock N Talk, a contributor to variety cable shows, an original co-host of Shaw‘s Daytime (now Urban Rush) and a contributor and fill-in host on Vancouver’s Breakfast Television. He hosted a Tech Buzz segment on Global Calgary’s Sunday Morning News, and was a guest on CTV Morning Live.

Buzz also writes essays advising radio properties on best practices and approaches to engage their audience, be relevant in their community and capture the imagination of their listeners through the power of social media.

Buzz is also a proud father and has created an online community for fathers called DadCAMP. The site, at dad-camp.com, not only encourages fathers to share parenting experiences, but also brings Dads and their kids together for monthly meet ups. Started in September 2009, DadCAMP is already a fast growing and vibrant community. Currently Buzz is a contributor to Babble.com‘s Kid Scoop blog under the DadCAMP brand. Babble, owned by Disney, is the premier destination for parent blogs.

Silly piece of Buzz Bishop trivia? He has acted alongside an Oscar nominated actor. Yes, that’s him with the bad British accent working with Ryan Gosling in a feature role on Breaker High.

NEW MEDIA ESSAYS

Buzz has long been a futurist when it comes to technology and social media. Not content to watch traditional media dwindle on the radar of the next generation, Buzz has taken to his cyberbuzz blog to offer ideas on how the business can evolve and embrace new media to capture the imagination. In other words, he’s a media disruptor.
