Last year it was ING Direct supporting Team Diabetes with a wonderful Stampede BBQ. This year, despite a brand change, I’m thrilled to announce the same teams will be getting together to once again hold a lunch time party on the streets of Calgary to raise money for the 9 million Canadians living with diabetes and pre-diabetes.

We had a meeting this week and Tangerine is proud to once again host XL 103 on their 6th ave sidewalk outside their Tangerine Calgary Cafe.

Once again All Beef Catering will be setting up their spread to serve people lunch on the final Friday of Stampede. After a long week of mixing, mingling, and saddling up, this will be one final chance to come together, donate what you can, and enjoy a wonderful lunch in the sun of The Calgary Stampede.

This is what being a Calgarian is all about. We come together for random acts of community all the time, Stampede is one of the biggest. Last year we had a visit from Mayor Nenshi who, in the midst of serving citizens in crisis during the flood, supported our event with a smile.

We’re working on some big prizes, giveaways, raffles, and other enticements to get you to dig into your pocket to support Team Diabetes. Every $1300 we raise can do something special, like send a kid to camp.

Last summer I had a chance to visit Camp Jean Nelson and saw, first hand, the wonderful work the team does to put the camp on and the smiles on the kids’ faces as they were surrounded by other kids just like them. It’s wonderful work, it’s expensive work, and your support of Team Diabetes helps these kids. By raising more than $5000 at last year’s BBQ, we raised enough money to send 4 kids to camp.

So put it in your planners now, Friday, July 11, 2014. I’ll be doing the noon hour show live on XL 103 from the Tangerine Calgary Cafe for another Team Diabetes BBQ.
