Ahhh … American politics. You gotta love it. It’s all about the issues. You know issues like the atrocious economy. Issues like the war. Issues like the housing crisis. Issues like … wrestling?

Nice. Okay, it’s cute and funny, but is it really presidential to do schtick like this? Wait, maybe it is.. George W Bush was on Deal or No Deal last night.

If you want someone to blame for this whole mess where candidates attempt to look human instead of talking point repeating robots, look no further than Bill Clinton.

The night he played sax in front of Arsenio Hall’s dog pound was the night issue oriented politicking in America died.

But don’t take my word for it… check out this piece in the New York Times.

The Canucks missed the playoffs. Yeah its old news.

As are the stories saying the sports bars aren’t selling as much beer, the sporting goods places aren’t selling as many jerseys, and the scalpers aren’t ripping off as many people.

But one other thing isn’t happening in this city, but it’s happening in Calgary. Where they have playoff hockey.

And that’s a chance for children to discover heroes. Check out this kid who LOVES Kiprusoff.

That emotion and devotion is what playoff hockey is all about. That’s what is missing in Vancouver right about now.

Lots of parents want to limit the amount of television kids watch, and I get that. Most of it is mindless sexualized or violent imagery that doesnt really need to be exist in an infant’s world.

Some go so far as to ban all screen based media from their children for as long as they can.

Well, we’re not going that far. One of my fave things to do with Zacharie is pop him on my lap and fire keywords into YouTube to see what pops up.

For example, he has a favorite Richard Scarry poster in his bedroom. Pop Richard Scarry into YouTube and look what you get to watch .. the Busytown folks starring in a Beastie Boys romp. Fun for father and son!

Z also LOVES trucks. We take him out on the front porch to watch the street cleaners and garbage men do their thing. But that’s only once a week… so we check out the trucks on YouTube to pass along the time between pick-ups.

Here are two clips that make him smile and laugh and clap.

There’s a fun meme floating around the internets of late. One where people point you to one of the “best videos ever” only to have it end up being Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up.

Rick Roll’d: An online prank where the user is unknowingly misdirected to a video of Rick Astley. Usually done with YouTube videos related to unconfirmed gaming news. [source]

There’s an official website with a list of most of the Rick Roll videos.. Mark Cuban did it to his blog readers last week promising a special behind the scenes video that ended up being a Rick Roll.

It really took off last week as a prank for April Fools, and me being overseas, I’m kinda late to the party .. but ..

This, however, is one of the most genius Rick Roll ever. The blog entry heading is Best Muppet Video Ever… it ends up being .. well .. the best Muppet Video Clip Ever.

We’re in France - why wait til Wednesday?

Actually, Wednesday is the day we do some serious tastings here in the Loire, so expect a longer post then. In the meantime just a quick little video we shot tonight mixing some Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne and Chambord Liqueur Royale.

We visited the Chambord Chateau today, and on the way back to Le Moulin Du Port (our B&B), we passsed the Chambord property - pretty cool.

Once again, our pairings are TOTALLY off, but what are you going to do when you’re in France with a 10mo old and curfew is each night at 7p, and the restos don’t open til 8? Well, you do a quick video with some champagne and Chambord for y’all and then settle in for a few episodes of Dexter on the MacBook.

BTW, tomorrow, we walk the 4k along the banks of the Cher to Chenonceau, a chateau with no moat, because it was built on the river.

Jen and I fell in love with Rob and Big when trapped inside our hotel room in Cuba. We were pregnant, not drinking and not smoking, so, there we were in Cuba, watching MTV. It was a Rob and Big Marathon, we saw about 10 episodes in a row. We were hooked.

To understand what we did today, you need to watch what Rob and Big did earlier this season.

Find more videos like this on www.truveo.com.

So, imagine our surprise while trucking along the A13 in Normandy today when Enrique blasts on Radio NRJ! I grab the camera, flip on the video and the whole family breaks it down Rob and Big style.

Yes, we’re in France, but we’re in the North, not the south where the wine is (yet). Here, the trees are filled with apples, and the Belgians are just a barrels throw north. So Normandie is not about wine, it’s about cider. Lots of it. Cider and apple brandy, called Calvados, which also happens to be the name of the department (county).

But back to Beer Thursday. With the abundance of apples, and the friendliness of the Belgian beermakers nearby, you knew someone, somewhere would get chocolate apple juice in someone else’s peanut butter beer.

Oh, and I dont know why my head got cut off .. it was fine in the original footage.

Gary Vaynerchuk owns Wine Library in New Jersey. It’s a wine store. Gary has a website for his wine store.

But that’s where the usual link between bricks and mortar and the internet end. Gary’s site is an alive and active blog with stories and tastings and humour and videos as he rolls around tasting wine and sharing his passion with the world.

Gary’s key goals are twofold: “First, I want people to try different wines. How can you have a favorite if you only know a few? Second, I tell people to trust their palates. If a wine appeals to your palate, then it’s a good choice. Don’t feel pressured to like popular brands or what experts recommend. Buy what ‘brings the thunder’ for you.” [source]

Jen and I have described wine as tasting like band aids, musty, fruity etc.

O RLY?

Gary is out to prove it. He recently went on Conan, where he had the host taste some wine, taste some dirt - and realize, “Hey! It’s the same!”
