The family went looking for spring yesterday. Sick of the snow, we packed up and headed south like any good Canadian bird would do.

We stopped at Burlington and to have some snacks at Krispy Kreme.

Z didn’t actually eat any Krispy Kreme donuts in that photoshoot. It was all cleverly staged. We’re rookie parents, but not crazy! Jen was just out of the lens with a bucket of baby wipes to soak him down!

Then we went out into the flats between LaConner and Mount Vernon - the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival was in full bloom, and if you can make it down within the next week or so, this is a little bit of what you should see.

Y’know, sometimes it takes courage to be unique.

We went to Jericho for a walk and picnic yesterday. Sure, they may have shattered records in Pitt Meadows by soaring to 24, but down at the beach it was damn cold!

Didnt matter, we had our sandwiches and iced tea, and Zacharie had a little potatoes and vegetable stew, so we picnicked our chilled little butts off.

The whole while Jen was feeding Z, I couldnt stop staring. She was sooo sexy. The ice cold breeze blowing in her face, gave her a certain Cosmo cover girl look.

Someone get this girl on MILF Island, she’d take the title in a heartbeat!!

To celebrate our engagement on Monday night, Jen and I opted for a romantic dinner in.

A couple of boxes of takeout from Mezzo di Pasta and a bottle of Tavel from the marche.

Again, we’re not pairing this properly, but Jen was so excited to see this half bottle on the shelf, she dropped it (must have been the extra weight from that engagement ring;). It didnt break, we bought it.

This wine is only available in the spring and is ripe for the hot Mediterranean days to sip on a patio with a bucket of mussels. It’s about +2 and raining in Paris and we’re having bolognese pasta. So the pairing is off - way off. But this is Paris, and Jen and I got engaged today, and Zacharie is sleeping. All that makes a perfect pairing.

Despite what our Facebook statii say, Jen and I are not married.

Yes, she wears a diamond band on her left hand, and I a gold on mine - but those are just personal commitments we’ve made to each other. Nothing formal. Truth is, I bought Jen her original diamond band with the thought of using it for a wedding band, one day. In the meantime, it was something for her to wear on her left hand and feel comfortable being pregnant with people immediately staring down at the left finger. You dont think it happens, but it does.

Jen and I joke that ours is an arranged marriage. We got pregnant soon after meeting, and even though there has never been a doubt about our commitment or relationship, it was always something that seemed chosen for us, instead of chosen by us.

I had so many things I want to say to Jen when I proposed. None of them came out but, “Do you choo choo choose me?”

It’s a joke between us, Jen loves the Ralph Wiggum clip, and it sums up what this decision is for us. It’s our choice to be together.

There is no wedding date set, although wouldnt a Hawaiian wedding and Tahitian honeymoon wrap nicely around the Team Diabetes Easter Island marathon in June 09?

We’ll see. The important thing is we choo choo choose each other.

Here's all that's loving and wonderful on the radio today:

    - Don't buy into the hype.  Seriously.  BUT …if you forgot the flowers today, blame it on the flower shop that was robbed in Langley. Or just go and get some Cupcakes.

    - If you need a card, send an eCard.  The tv networks have some fun ones set up featuring the cast of The Office, Grey's Anatomy and Lost.

    - Love is in the air!  Nelly Furtado is pregnant - or, yknow, is not pregnant.  We do know one of the belugas at the Vancouver Aquarium is.

    - Meg Fowler, our blogstar, is working up a hate list on this love day - but she giggles through it.

    - If you're not feeling the love today, check out this list of the 5 Best Breakup Songs.

    - Now that the Writers Strike is over, the stars are coming out for Oscar.

Yes, it’s February 13, but it was damn sun shiney and beautiful today, so Jen and I went on down to our local Pure Nailbar and got our toes did.

Jen doesnt like me getting the toe nails painted, but since it’s included I always jump for it. I went for the Black Onyx (yes, I usually get pink - it’s toes, under socks - who cares?)

The nail polish may have been free, but the waxing of those hairy toes was an extra 10, and it didn’t happen.
