It's halftime!  Here's what's up for Wednesday:

    - It's Weedless Wednesday.  A part of National Non Smoking Week.  Already BC has the lowest smoking rate in the country.  If you still smoke, I'd like to ask you "Why?"  Seriously, why would you do something like that to yourself.  Pretend this is a debate, convince me that smoking is fine and dandy.  You can't do it.  Quit already.

    - Check out what London Drugs can do to help you quit. If you're a teen and willing to pledge to stay smoke free, you could score $5000.

    - Another perfect Vancouver day.  The Best Place on Earth.

    - Janet Jackson's doing the Grammys.  So is Beyonce (with Tina Turner). Britney has been told to stay the hell away.

    - A lot of sensational stories have been written about Heath Ledger. This one isn't like that. Here's a sweet quote from Michelle Williams' father.

    - Mrs Brady wants to be on Dancing with the Stars.

    - Congratulations Coquitlam! You're the Cultural Capital of Canada for 2009.

    - "Um, like, Mom? I'm busy being, like, Zoey 101. Can you, like, look after my baby?"

Jerry O’Connell, aka Mr Rebecca Romijn, takes a shot at Tom Cruise’s crazy Scientology video.

It’s on FunnyOrDie, the site that brought us Will Ferrell’s crazy landlord last summer.

So is Heath Ledger.

Actor Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday at a downtown Manhattan residence in what authorities say is a possible drug-related death, the NYPD said. He was 28. [source]

Yes, I always get my drug overdose celebrity death news from the Wall Street Journal.

If you want a more celeb focussed approach, check out Pop Crunch.

It’s a tragic death that will be milked for the rest of the week on ET and happened in enough time to kick Britney off the cover of the weekend tabloids.

Facebook and blogs are covered with laments already. Personally, I think it’s Darwin at his finest.. drugs kill, mess with a bull and the horns will get you .. but that’s not my concern…

How did you find out about this news? Surfing on a website? Email alert? Facebook status update? Text message? Twitter? A friend told you? The radio?

Or will you read about it for the first time in a newspaper tomorrow.

This is a world where when news breaks, it breaks fast. I found out from a friend who just heard Sarah Bartok mention it on 95Crave. When I logged in to Twitter, it was all over the tweets.

So how did you find out? Did the internets win this war of breaking news, or did word of mouth get to you first?

Back at it in the glorious sunshine for a new week!

    - Today is Blue Monday, statistically calculated as the worst day of the year

    - It's also Black Monday as global stocks took a HUGE header.  Sucks if you're near retirement, if you're young just look at is as all the stocks are on sale, and it's a chance to stock up! You know, like a BOGO event at Payless.

    - Yes, it was a wild weekend in the TDot for CBC's Test the NationTeam Blogger won it, and I've been blogging all about it.

    - In the US, it's Martin Luther King Jr Day.  It's not our holiday, but it's still a great chance to stop and reflect on the message.

    - America seems to think they're over it, but the more they focus on race and gender, it proves they're really nowhere close, are they?

    - I warned you last week not to sit too close to watch Cloverfield!

    - Meg Fowler may be single, but she prefers football to dating.

    - If you prefer dating to football, check out Cravin Misbehavin - cheap tickets on sale tomorrow. I'm giving away tix all week if you know your candy trivia, the theme this year is Candyland!

Welcome to the last bit of work before the weekend, here's what's on the radio.

    - Yes, I'm doing a whirlwind to Toronto this weekend to be on CBC's Test the Nation.  It's Sunday night at 8p.  Watch and cheer on Team Blogger!

    - Cloverfield opens tonight.

    - Dine Out Vancouver night #3 tonight. Need a list of where to eat? Check this out.

    - Johnny Depp as Michael Jackson?  It's getting my interest, and it just might happen.

    - David Beckham and Snoop are going into business together.  Designing slippers.

    - Are you really really really happy it's Friday?

    - The Canucks celebrate their 200th straight sellout this weekend, and they're running a little contest.

    - The stars are out in Surrey this weekend. Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly and Kathy Bates, to be exact.

    - There's word (again) Paula Abdul could be getting fired from Idol.  So she's trying a music comeback.

    - Nat and Drew had Andrew Morton on discussing his Tom Cruise book this morning. Brilliant. If you missed it, check it out below:

Back at it, here's what's on the radio:

    - I saw The Kite Runner on Saturday.  My wife says it wasnt as good as the book, but we were both still in tears at the end.  Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant filmmaking.

    - Crave FX is going to drive you mad. We play at 7:15, 10:15, 1:15 and 5:15.

    -  Britney is on the cover of every.single.tabloid. this week.  She's creating more chaos today by reportedly adding her paparazzi boyfriend to her entourage. She also brought him to a custody hearing today.

    - The Golden Globes were handed out last night.  Yeah, I was watching the Amazing Race too. Good thing, cause I have no idea who many of the winners are.

    - Christina and Nicole had their babies in the same ward of the same hospital on Friday.  I love the story of how they sent "spies" down to the guest area to see who had a bigger present pile.

    - Jennifer Aniston is in town. Keep your camera handy, you just might make some cash as an amateur paparazzo.

    - Mary J Blige on steroids? That's what's being alleged of her, 50 Cent, Timbaland, Wyclef Jean and Tyler Perry.

Lots of videos this morning.

The Blog According to Buzz. Spread the word, ya heard?.

I have seen 2 movies in the past 6 months. It’s an effect that is directly proportional to the birth of my son. My mom babysat for us to have a “date night” for the Bourne Identity Ultimatum Supremacy 3 and then a couple weeks ago we saw American Gangster at the Twilight Drive In.

That’s it.

There was a time when I would see 3 or 4 movies a month and I would be fully versed in the pros and cons of each nominee for the Oscars or Golden Globes. This year I haven’t got a clue.

Even with the ability to download movies freely on the internet, I’m still not motivated to go and grab anything and cosy up with my Creative Zen and watch a flick. Nothing interests me.

That said, the Golden Globe nominations were announced today. The nominees are:

MOVIES:

Picture, Drama: “American Gangster,” “Atonement,” “Eastern Promises,” “The Great Debaters,” “Michael Clayton,” “No Country for Old Men,” “There Will Be Blood.”

TELEVISION:

Series, Drama: “Big Love,” HBO; “Damages,” FX Networks; “Grey’s Anatomy,” ABC; “House,” Fox; “Mad Men,” AMC; “The Tudors,” Showtime.

Actress, Drama: Patricia Arquette, “Medium”; Glenn Close, “Damages”; Minnie Driver, “The Riches”; Edie Falco, “The Sopranos”; Sally Field, “Brothers & Sisters”; Holly Hunter, “Saving Grace”; Kyra Sedgwick, “The Closer.”

Actor, Drama: Michael C. Hall, “Dexter”; Jon Hamm, “Mad Men”; Hugh Laurie, “House”; Jonathan Rhys Meyers, “The Tudors”; Bill Paxton, “Big Love.”

Actress, Musical or Comedy: Christina Applegate, “Samantha Who?”; America Ferrera, “Ugly Betty”; Tina Fey, “30 Rock”; Anna Friel, “Pushing Daisies”; Mary-Louise Parker, “Weeds.”

Actor, Musical or Comedy: Alec Baldwin, “30 Rock”; Steve Carell, “The Office”; David Duchovny, “Californication”; Ricky Gervais, “Extras”; Lee Pace, “Pushing Daisies.”

I got nothing.

The awards are scheduled for the new year, but the show might be super boring if no stars show up. There’s word the actors will boycott in solidarity with the Writers Strike.
