essouria, morocco - darren barefoot photoA lot of people found a way to e-commute today. Get things done from home with the kids instead of hiking up the skirt and pounding through the slushy puddles.

That’s fine, but could you do it everyday? e-commute, I mean.

Darren Barefoot does. He has a Vancouver based web marketing company called Capulet Communications. For the past 8 months Darren has been running that company remotely, from Malta and, most recently, Essouira, Morocco.

But you’d have no idea if he was in a trendy Railtown loft, or his ancient riad on the Atlantic coast of Africa.

Pretty cool. I profile Darren in today’s cyberbuzz. I’m working on a feature piece on his efforts for a magazine later this spring.

I am soooo excited to have found a live stream of Good Day LA. It’s my kind of morning news show on tv. Loose, informative, silly, editorial - it’s good time. And I can watch it in a tiny window on my computer while I work - love the internets.

How are you doing on your New Year’s Resolutions? cyberbuzz has a list of sites and apps you can use to help you stay in the groove.

I also have a post about online speed-dating. Meg won’t try it, maybe you will?

John Chow makes money online by telling people how much money he makes online. Last month he made over $25 000 from his blog. In 2007, he made over $180 000 and his estimates have that nearly doubling to $300 000 for 2008.

I’m reading John’s e-Book
, I’m using some of his methods and I’m trying to make money off this blog.

It’s early, and I’m micro analyzing stats, traffic and results. After a couple weeks of monetizing the blog, here are the totals:

It’s true, this blog is not about me. It’s about you talking about me.

Seth Godin, The Lord and God of all this is Marketing and positive in the world, just posted this little nugget:

The truism of the web: people talking about you is far more effective than talking about yourself. [link]

Amen.

However, at the same time Seth often hails the usage of blogs for promotion and marketing and networking and spreading your message.

You have to talk about yourself to get people to talk about you, but it’s the second part of the equation that keeps the momentum going and has the most impact.

You can tell two friends, but it’s the so on and so on that really makes the magic. That’s why I have the tag line “Spread the word, ya heard?” This may be the Blog According to Buzz, but I need you to spread the Gospel.

Can I get an Amen?

Okay, so Meg doesnt believe in New Year’s Resolutions on New Year’s Eve. She says:

..nothing in life changes because of the date, unless you decide it does. And you can do that any day of the year, be it January 1st or April 3rd or August 29th.

And Meg did. She scrubbed her Facebook profile in mid-December and started new. Good for Meg.

I’m doing things the regular old way. I waited until today and I’m making changes.

Here’s the first one:

I also plan to focus on maintaining an accurate budget, an organized workspace, successful blogs, a less stressed attittude, and, simply, trying harder.

It’s the last one that I want to ring true this year. I want to be honest with my effort. In work, in love, in play, in everything.

To be honest, most successes in my life have come easy. This year I won’t take them for granted, I will earn them and I will grow beyond expectations.
