Best Day Ever: The Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics In A Day

Check another item off the bucket list: I’ve been to the olympics. Sure, we were there for barely 24 hours, but I’ve seen the athletes, cheered on the team, and soaked up the atmosphere of a party where the whole world shows up.

What a day. It started by meeting Alex Bilodeau outside the CBC headquarters where he was interviewed for Radio Canada, signed some autographs and then slipped his lanyard around Zacharie’s neck before he was rushed off.

Yes. The first Canadian to win a medal on home soil annointed my son. I was jumping up and down like a child.

After that it was lots and lots and lots of walking. We did Robson and the crowds and watched Sidney Crosby score in a shootout on the side of a building.

The next morning we were up for the best coffee ever before milling around the fenced off flame and more walking.

We met up with my parents and just wandered for 4 hours people watching, experiencing and appreciating all that Vancouver has to offer.

We didnt see any events, but didnt feel like we missed out on that since we had watched long and short track speed skating events during their 2008/2009 World Cup stops. We had been inside the Richmond Olympic Oval, we had seen Charles Hamelin duel Apollo Anton Ohno, all that was left was to experience the party.

What a party. If you haven’t gone yet, you have to go.
