We Are All Canucks Flames

buzz bishop - Calgary Flames

I’m trading Bieksa for Bouwmeester. Daniel for Dion. Luongo for Kiprussoff.

Today I accepted an offer to host the morning show at 90.3 AMP Radio in Calgary.

It’s a juicy and thick radio station that never quits. AMP just signed on in the summer and has been taking Calgary by storm ever since.

Thanks to all for your support while I’ve been on the sidelines the past 3 months. Specifically to Tiffani Warnick and the nearly 300 people that joined a Facebook Group to get me back on the air. The kind words you all shared helped lift my spirits and kept me in pursuit of opportunity.

Thanks to JP Holecka for getting me charged up about DadCAMP (which will continue) and chasing opportunities. Thanks to Tanya, Shawn, Frenchie and Blair at Momentum Media Marketing for giving me a desk to go to during the week.

Thanks to everyone who gave me time for coffee or a phone call to talk about where I was, where I needed to go and how I needed to get there.

Thanks above all to my Bebe Lala, Jennifer. I am not going to lie, I have not been easy to deal with these past 13 weeks, but she was never worried. She had a favourite cemetary she’d drive by and ask the dead people how things were going to turn out. They said things were going to be fine and she never wavered.

She was/is my rock and I couldn’t ask for a better life partner.

The best part about this move is that I’ll still be right here. I may be moving homes, but my website will still be online and you can listen to AMP online as well. Get the TimeTuner app for your iPhone, and you can dial in to 90.3 AMP Radio anywhere.

I start in December meaning things will be interesting over the next little bit. Not only will I be packing up and moving during Christmas time, but Jen and I are expecting Chuck the second week of January. It’s going to be crazy, but such is life.

The best part? Jen might finally learn to pronounce Iginla.

So while we get ready to saddle up and ride over the Rockies, I’d appreciate your help again. We’ll be looking for family doctors, dentists, hairdressers, schools, daycare, banks, grocery stores etc in Calgary.

We’ll also be looking for a North Vancouver Ninja Real Estate agent to help us flip our North Shore pad for a home on the range.

Got some tips? Pass ‘em along.

  • Congratulations Buzz...I'm very happy for you! Sounds like a pretty exciting ride over the next few months!
  • Oh, congrats, Buzz. You know that I love you as a DJ (You are the sound of Vancouver to me), and I'm so happy for you and your family...even though you're leaving our fair province.
  • Congrats man!
  • krys
Sushi = Kinjo on Mcleod trail. While it's no Vancouver, it's the best in the city by far!
  • gusf
    Awesome Buzz! Congrats!!
I wish you and your family all the best and will continue to listen to you whenever I can!
  • Best of luck to you in Cowtown. Be prepared for some crazy urban sprawl, since the city of Calgary is about as big as the GVRD. I'd get in your sushi fix while you can too, since anything to do with fresh fish is lacking in Alberta. Any plans as to where in Calgary you'll be calling home?

If you suddenly turn into a Flames fan, I think I may have to be mildly disappointed and unfollow you on Twitter. ;)

Congratulations Buzz. I have already favorited the station, and hope to catch you on the air. Good luck to you and Jen, and don't forget about us here at home.
  • Tiffani
I am over the moon happy for you and Jen :)
  • Reg Hampton
Congrats Buzz. Looking forward to hearing you in Calgary. But I still (quietly) cheer for the Canucks...even though I live in Cowtown...

Congratulations Buzz! I wish you and your family success upon success in this new chapter. What a way to start the new year - a new job, new town, and a new wee soul to add to your family.
  • Total inspiration to those out of work of the hope that things always do turn out!
Check out Patricia Houlihan for a true NINJA when it comes to real estate.
    Best of luck with everything.

Great news for YYC - not so good for YVR. There are a lot of Canuck supporters here in YYC that stay true to their team, even if from afar. You might need to get Centre Ice package to see all the Sportsnet games though - otherwise it's only CBC and the Toronto Sports Network. Flames games are fun to watch too - as long as they aren't playing the Nux.

AMP is really gaining momentum here and all the "kids" are listening to it (although I'm a Dad and I tend to crank it during the commute for some variation).

Good luck with all the move stuff - as with any city you don't know well, it's hard to know where that "best" place to live for families. I live in Tuscany which is good for families (parks, walkways, Sobeys, Starbucks) but probably equivalent to the North Shore. I hope that DadCamp gets a test-drive!

    Geoff

PS. Plus you get to see Reg Hampton occasionally on TV! How cool is that? ;)
  • michaelferreira
Congrats Buzz...I've been following your career since you got hired after I left the mighty 94 CJIB in Vernon. I'm sure we'd have some good Pat Nicol, Don Weglo and Frank Martina stories to trade. Good luck in Calgary.
  • Sam
Congrats man, van city has lost a gem.

but please tell me you don't have to become a flames fan. that's disgusting.
  • Sam
ps - can i call dibs on your season tickets? ;-)
  • LOL! You bring up a good point. So, what are you going to do with the season tickets Buzz?

Nevertheless, congrats! Glad things worked out for ya in the end!
  • Congratulations, Buzz! You'll be missed here.
  • Good luck with the new gig! I know you will give the folks in Calgary a reason to turn morning radio dials to 90.3. Rock it to the Rockies buddy.
  • mlbaldwin
Congrats on finding a new gig Buzz. Like you said, you'll still be here with your website and easy access to your new morning radio show in Calgary.

My suggestion for a Realtor here would be Sebastian Albrecht who conquered the Grouse Grind to raise $ for Charity. http://budurl.com/VanRealtor http://budurl.com/VanRealtors You can find him on Twitter http://twitter.com/salbrecht

You can find Sebastien' contact info here. http://www.sebastianalbrecht.com/

    Warmly,

I recommend Michael Geisbrecht as a realtor. He is great! It's sad Virgin pulled a "Crave" and ditched a popular DJ but as everyone hasa said, Vancouver's loss is Calgary's gain! Good luck and keep us posted.
  • Good work Buzz. Show them what you`ve got.
  • raj
    GO FLAMES GO!

Hey Buzz....I did the mornings there when it was Fuel 90.3 and you are simply going to love the people there. Your GM Vinka is awesome so is Emma, your promo gal. Actually they all rock. The work hard and really really play hard. Book Stampede week off because you will party your face off. It's expected.
Honestly you will really enjoy your time there. Odd...I knew they were going to scoop you up when I heard that Virgin screwed you (did that come out right?)
Anyway Buzz....you will love the gang and the party part....ya...better shape up your liver. They are a whole lotta fun there. BTW...I have a beautiful house for sale 10 minutes from the station, straight up center street. Ask Emma about the house. It is absolutely beautiful. Email me if you want info....i'll knock 20 grand off the price.
  • Congratulations Buzz!
  • Justine Lister
    A) I'm super sad you are leaving Vancouver :( I loved listening to you on the radio and have been faithfully reading your blog (s). You will be missed.

    B) Real estate agent extraordinare - Renee Casano. We just bought our first home and she was amazing. Give her a call!
  • Justine Lister
PS. Congrats and good luck. Calgary is getting the best :)
  • tinybites
Congratulations, Buzz! We'll miss you here in Vancouver. I'll tell my siblings in Calgary to dial in!

And if you need recs for Calgary places, I can ask my family for tips in your new neighbourhood. Make sure to check out the humungous Calgary Farmers Market - I love that place.
  • davingreenwell
Congrats Buzz. I had no doubt that you'd be somewhere deserving of your talent in fairly short order. Look forward to hearing you when I visit Calgary!
  • Tamara
    Congrats Buzz!

You are as much a part of Vancouver for me as English Bay is and while it is sad to hear you are leaving Vancouver, it is awesome to hear that new doors are opening for you. You Rock! Go show those Calgarians how good radio can be. Vancouver is surely losing a gem and we will miss you!

If ur still looking for a recommendation for a Realtor, I would love to help you myself but if ur looking for a star performer, I would suggest my cousin....
Monet Tyler (she is a top 1% Realtor in Vancouver and top 5% Realtor in Canada)
    Royal LePage North Shore
    http://www.monettyler.com/

She doesn't just list a house, she truely works hard to "Sell" a home and her clients absolutely love her.

Good Luck Buzz! Wish you and your family all the best!

    Long time fan,
    Tamara

Congrats Buzz - great news. I'll tune in to check it out.

Congratulations Buzz and best of luck in Calgary. As a one-time Calgarian myself, I can say that you'll have a great time. It's a fun city and a great place to raise a family.

All the best, I'll look you up for a cup of coffee when visiting my brother.

    Paul
  • well, I guess I will need to get AMP on my desktop. Good luck. YVR will miss you. The Flames likely have a better chance at the cup anyway (Shh). Haven't lived in Calgary in 15 years so no idea what is cool or hot. But I do know there is no god damn RAIN and you can buy a house for $450K!
    Cheers
