I’m thinking… did I tune into the wrong station? Talk about Nat & Drew… but nothing about you. Just got home from driving and wondered what was up? And then I see this. Seems like a tombstone… without the RIP. Say it isn’t so…. Vancouver radio won’t be the same without you. Anyhow, hopefully, whatever happened/happens, it works out for you and you young family.
Wow… That is very sad, and a bad error in judgement, on behalf of the V folks. You were my drive home guy… now I’ve got to switch, because that IS… NOT… COOL.
I have to agree with Lisa. I think it’s disrespectful to both the legacy of the on-air talent and the listeners to just pretend that nothing has happened. Yet radio stations do it “all the time”.
Buzz, the Vancouver radio market is worse for not having you on the air. I don’t know if you knew this was coming or not, but you always seemed enthusiastic for Virgin and were a big reason why Z/Crave (whatever) lasted through to become Virgin.
But as you said, one door closes, another opens. What plans for the future? Change markets? Change professions? Does this give you the opportunity to become “new media guy”?
Hours later, I’m still trying to wrap my head around what appears to be a massively foolish decision… I can only imagine how you are feeling… Best wishes to you, and your family. Remember that THAT is what is important. When you land on another branch, as I’m sure you soon will… please send a Tweet out… (already a follower) and I’ll switch over from my I-Pod. In the meantime… peace and love.
You are an institution in your own right. 95.3 on the radio dial = Buzz Bishop to so many of us that grew up in Vancouver. It’s their loss, really (what the hell were they thinking anyways?).
You were the reason we listened and we’ll listen to you wherever you go next (if you choose to stay in radio).
I can’t imagine what the station manager / PD were thinking when they made this decision? You are an institution in Vancouver radio — And I thought Virgin was the perfect fit for you… You owned drive time.
That’s about the lamest decision Virgin Radio has made! What…they take a look and see, oh that DJ is doing really well and is really popular, so let’s get rid of him!
Errr…has the station lost it’s MIND!
I’m sure there are enough of us that are WTF’d enough to rally behind you if you want us to fight for you to get back in there…just let us know!!
*THUD* I just fainted. OMG Buzz. I’m so sorry. What a HUGE mistake by Virgin. BIG. HUGE. I’ll miss you on my radio!!! Okay. Again. *THUD* WTF? Ummmm weren’t you voted Best Afternoon Radio Announcer two years in a row by the Georgia Straight readers? Please tell me this some sort of stunt by Virgin to get some attention. WTF. Sorry Buzz. Let me know if there is anything I can do? Start a campaign to get you your job back???
Most of the PPs have pretty much summed up how I feel about your departure. It is a terrible mistake on the station’s part and the only reason I listen is because of your program. I feel you spoke well of current events and pop culture while keeping it a clean program that I could listen to with my kids. I don’t appreciate the sex and drug talk that comes out of other station’s afternoon drive programs and I really respect you for being able to have the best afternoon program without having to stoop to stoner talk to do so!
Good luck to you and your family. I sure hope you stay in Vancouver!
I’m at a TOTAL loss…haven’t heard you on for a few days but thought that you were on vacation or something. Then I hear these new announcers on, who aren’t nearly as good as you by the way, and decided to check out the website. Nothing. Virgin Radio can’t even post something on the website letting their listeners know what the hell is going on. How LAME. What is wrong with this station?? They can’t seem to make up their minds about what direction they want to go and frankly, I’m getting sick of it.
You were my drive home guy and I always looked forward to the stories you told and the opinions you had. You were funny and current and fresh. I can’t say the same about the people that are on the air now. The only thing this station has going for it now are Nat and Drew. Although they screwed that pairing up once already too. I think it’s time to look for another station on the dial.
I can’t believe they let you go – I listened to you and K J on the way home from work everyday! I actually thought you were on vacation yourself, but having not heard your voice for a while now, decided to find out what the heck was going on! There is absolutely nothing on the virgin website – it’s as if you were never there. That station is going to lose me as a listener – I do not understand why they would do this to you. However, you have a great attitude about it and I’m sure that you will land on your feet somewhere! I hope it’s still Vancouver! All the best for you – you deserve it!

I hate it when stations do this and say nothing on air or write anything on their websites. Acknowledge. Let your listeners grieve a bit.
You mattered.
And you matter.

Wow. Holy crap. Whoa. Jeez.
Can’t say much else … (slides beer down the bar … )

I just got back from holidays, wtf is going on?
But but but… *pouts*
This. Just. Sucks.

I still can’t believe it. That’s messed up.
Let’s grab a glass of vino sometime soon…
What? I’m so sorry to hear this Buzz, I really love listening to you as I drive home from work every day and will miss that.
I really hope you guys find something else that you love quickly because you are all GREAT at your jobs and deserve it.
