Pictures of Orange Sunset, Thunder and Lightning in Vancouver – July 25, 2009
Some have called it “sunset on Jupiter,” others just stopped and stood in awe. A massive thunder and lightning cell swept over the city forcing thunder and lightning and dark clouds over the city while the western sky towards Vancouver Island was illuminated in purples, oranges, blues and reds at sunset.
Tyler Ingram caught one of the best shots of the night with fireworks and lightning in the same frame.
Vancouver webcam fave, KatKam was pointed right into the heart of the sunset and caught these shots.
On the other side of downtown, Duane Storey caught a great shot of the sunset, and another of the lightning from Gastown.
In North Burnaby, Derek K Miller caught some awesome shots of the forked lightning bolts striking.
On the other side of the city, in Steveston, Erich Harvey captured beautiful shots of the boats, the sunset and the arriving storm.

We just don’t get the humidity to have this happen in Vancouver in the summer, but this afternoon the temperature was near 30, the air was thick and muggy and the dark clouds just descended from the east.

It really was a gorgeous freak weather situation that never seems to hit Vancouver!
Luckily I was able to catch it while on the way back from Whistler, but I really wish I had been in town to catch it alongside the fireworks.
