On Weddings

The day went by so fast. It was a blur. At one moment I was up early baking croissants and getting coffee ready for Jen and her team of beauticians, the next I was forgetting cases of wine and wondering which pocket I’d placed the rings in. Then it was mindlessly repeating my vows, to thinking I was taking too long getting photos, to worrying about being late for my honeymoon flight.
It all goes by so fast. As someone said to me this weekend, “it’s weird being a guest at your own wedding.” That it is.
You want to make sure all your guests are happy and having fun. You want to spend time chatting with your friends who spent 12 hours driving across the province to see you. You want your partner to meet your cousins from the east, you want to spend time meeting her old friends from the west.
And then it’s over.
We only had 50ish people for lunch this weekend and we didn’t get a chance to chat with everyone who came. Which saddens both of us. As we walked up and kissed, hugged or shook the hands of the guests we did spend a few seconds with each “I’m so glad you came,” was beyond genuine.
I hope those words were felt by each and every one of our guests. We are so glad you took time from your life to come and celebrate us. It was humbling.
Thank you for sharing part of your sunny summer day with Jennifer, Zacharie and I. We’re so glad you came.
