Help Me Pick A Tie For My Wedding

It’s almost here, 2 and a half weeks until Jen and I get married at The Teahouse in Stanley Park. We sat down this week after our vacation and knocked out the to do list and divided the tasks.

The big planning is done, now it’s just little things like favours, music, vows and .. wardrobe! I toyed with the idea of getting a new suit for the wedding, but this is a Wedding on a Budget, and all my options would have been more expensive than Jen’s wedding dress, so instead I chose to have one of my faves altered to fit my new LA Weight Loss physique ;)

The suit is a nice charcoal grey, 3 button with a slim lapel. Our wedding “colours” will consist of a collection of pinks in Jen’s bouquet and the flowers at the tables. Since the Teahouse is already a beautiful location, that’s the only real decorating we need to do. There isn’t a wedding party, so the only pink I’m trying to match will be the flowers, so I can freestyle it a bit.

Here are the ties I’ve spotted this week at Moore’s, Harry Rosen and Holt Renfrew. All are in the same ballpark, nothing ridiculously expensive.

Which one do you like best? Vote for 1-5 from left to right.

  • I definitely prefer the first and third, personally

Tie # 3 for the win!! If you’re wearing a grey suit, then you want your tie to pop. And #3’s colour will do that, plus it has a really nice contemporary pattern. Subtle, but effective ;)

    I like #3 the best

#5 looks the most formal to me. Link #2 is busted.

I’m going against the group, and voting for number 4. I like the sophistication of it.

  • I like #5 – it’s very classy.

  • I like #3…it will pop the most because it comes across as a solid. I like the tone on tone, it’s more modern.

Tie #2! You deserve some pizzazz!

  • #2 is my favourite. #3 is my second choice, they are both lovely. I can’t believe your wedding is so soon, good luck on the home stretch!

  • I’m voting for Tie #2.

I like #2. It’s pink, with a bit of pizazz…and i like the diagonal stripey-ness of it. It’s “there” but not too much.

    3 or 5! Good luck – can’t believe it’s only 2 1/2 weeks until the wedding! Congratulations!

Go with #5 for classic and it will look timeless in photos. #2 has the pink tones and projects a little fun with a modern twist. #1 and #3 are a little too salmon or orange and may clash with the pinks that are being accented in the bouquets. #4 looks like something my dad would wear…..not that that is bad but it has a retro look. Congratulations and let us know which one you choose.

  • LOVE #1…downright funky! Where can I find this tie?

#5 is suitable if you’re going for classy, but summer weddings are much more laxed; you can be both fun and stylish with #1.

    I’m voting for #2 or #4.

5’s my favorite, but 4 comes in second.

  • The photographer ;-) weighs in as follows:

1 – too bold. i like the tie for any other day, but it will steal the show in photos. and the orangey/pink is the wrong colour with the flowers. sorry to those who voted #1. this is my least favourite.
2 – i love the bright pink. it goes with your personality and you can totally pull it off. also the shade of pink will match the flowers. my first instinct was to say this is my favourite, but it might be too shiny in photos on a bright day – just look at the shine lines going across it from the store lights – imagine if the sun hit it.
3 – this is very nice, but from what I know of Jen’s flowers it’s also the wrong colour.
4 – although some have said it’s too old fashioned, I probably like this second best. classic. clean. simple. won’t upstage you or the bride. i would need to see it in person. could be a bit boring.
5 – very nice and classic, yet bold and contemporary. totally elegant and will look great in photos. is the wider stripe greyish? or whiteish? either way, I think I like this one the best.

I basically totally agree with what Jill said above. Can’t wait to see what you chose!

  • The Wedding Planner has 2 cents worth..

The photographer has got it… I too thought #2 would be a winner, but unless you have the exact hue of the flower in hand while picking the tie, then stay away from that idea, and stick to matching pink in your boutonnière.

#1 and #3 looks to be too close to salmon.. and #4 is okay but dull for such an important daly.. #5 is the winner. Classic lines but still modern and will stand the test of time..20+ years from now, you will not cringe when you look back at your wedding photos.
