Election Day in British Columbia

20090512 vote I voted this morning, and as I did in the fall during the Federal election, I brought Zacharie along for the ride.

He’s not quite 2, but why not introduce him to the process as often as I can? We have the right to vote in Canada, and even if you’re wrong in your political thinking ;) , it’s important to exercise that right.

Today is a true family voting experience. My father and grandfather are working a polling place in South Surrey. A pretty good gig too, I might add. Sure, they’re working a crazy 12+hour day, but they’re getting paid $200 tax free. Not bad for a couple ol’ lazy retirees, eh?

The polling places are open until 8p. You will be voting for your MLA as well as voting in a referendum on electoral change. You will be asked to choose between the status quo (first past the post) or a new system called single transferrable vote.

Inform yourself and exercise your right
