Wolf Blass 75th Birthday Visit to Vancouver

In 1961, Wolfgang Blass left Germany and headed for Australia with just 100 pounds in his pocket thinking he could “probably add something” to Australian winemaking.

Nearly 5 decades later, the entire world has learned from Blass and today he visits Vancouver as part of his world tour in honour of his 75th Birthday.

His first solo vintage was an award winner at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show and he hasn’t looked back since.

Mr Blass now serves as a roving ambassador for the winery that bears his name underlying the major role he has played in the development of the Australian wine industry.

He introduced new winemaking techniques, marketing strategies and the development of export markets. In honor of his contributions, the Australian wine industry gave Blass its highest award, the McWilliams Wines Maurice O’Shea Award.

The Wolf Blass wines
are easily identified by the classic colours and the powerful eagle on the label. Yellow, Grey, Green, Red, Gold ,Platinum and Black are all uniquely identifiable in an instant as Blass.

Wolf Blass has various media appointments throughout the day and will wrap with a private reception at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver tonight (I hope he’s a hockey fan!).

  • I *heart* Wolf Blass (black label) — Sounds like a fun reception.

I’ll be at the Bombay Sapphire event down the road tonight. Hope you have fun!
