Lance Armstrong 2009 Tour De France Participation In Doubt

July 4, 2009 is the day Lance Armstrong was to return to Le Tour de France in pursuit of an incomprehensible 8th title.

Note the tense. First Lance was saddled with a freak accident blowing up his collarbone. Thankfully, that hasn’t kept him off the bike. As you’ll see in the video below, he’s still training and plans to be at the Giro d’Italia next month.

The tour appearance, however, is in doubt because of a bizarre drug test. Not the results, but because of the way Lance reacted to the way it was requested. I’ll let him tell the story:

This is why I absolutely adore new media. Never mind waiting a month or longer to read about this story in a cycling magazine I may, or may not pick up. Days, hours, minutes after a story breaking, a savvy tech user can reach beyond the veil and speak directly to the public. Lance uses this blog and twitter to speak frankly on all issues.

It’s something Gary Vaynerchuk also embraces: own your story. Never mind waiting for it to be broken by someone else only to find yourself backpedaling and spinning. Come clean, come true, come first.

Livestrong, Lance. July 4 is also my wedding day. There’s no chance of me sleeping in, so I’d love to get ready by watching you start Le Tour.

I’m not usually one to be so negative; however, I have absolutely no respect for this organization or the French. Screw France! This is what happens when a country like France becomes intimated. In my opinion, Lance Armstrong is bigger than the event (Toru De France) itself. Hang in there Lance you have them running scared.
