I’m into the final 6 weeks before the half marathon with Team Diabetes Disney World in January.
After that it’s off in June with Team Diabetes Easter Island. After that?? Well, I’ve already started to look to 2010 and have the Rio de Janeiro Marathon circled on my calendar, but I might not have to wait that long as Team Diabetes is embarking on a brand new adventure – Conquer the Canyon®!

In September 2009, Team Diabetes will be traveling to Grand Canyon National Park – one of the seven natural wonders of the world - for an exciting and challenging hiking adventure.
Team Diabetes participants will have the opportunity to experience the magnificent beauty of the Grand Canyon up close and personal, one step at a time. With steep descents into the Canyon of up to 3,200 feet, participants will hike the trails accompanied by an expert guide who will interpret the intricacies of the geology, history, flora, fauna and environmental zones of the canyon.
Join us and enjoy this spectacular natural feature that extends for hundreds of miles across a portion of the southwestern Colorado Plateau in Arizona.

As someone who has hiked the Grand Canyon down to the river and back, let me just say that it is really one of those uncomparable things in life. There is *nothing* like hiking into the Grand Canyon. Simply visiting the rim is impressive but makes orders of magnitude less impact than going right to the bottom. Fortunately this sounds like a hike … there are some people who actually run from one rim, to the river, then up to the other rim (and back) running the whole way!
