Team Diabetes Disney World: Fall Classic
Posted by buzz in events, sports, team diabetes, trainingI’ve just finished the 8th week of training for Team Diabetes Disney World. I started out with 13 miles a week, am now pushing 20 miles a week with another 8 weeks of training still to come.
This weekend I wanted a test of my pace, so I competed in the 2008 New Balance Fall Classic at UBC. This is the last great set of races for the year, and it fit perfectly in to a recovery week in my training.
Some background. On July 1, Jen and I did the Run for Canada. We took a shortcut, only did 8 of the 10k and still it took us nearly 70 mins to get it done. Out.of.shape.
With that in mind, I was hoping to get the Fall Classic done in 54 minutes, then I thought maybe 51. It was aggressive, but that’s the bar I set. Before I unveil today’s time, let’s go back in time and look at some previous runs:
2003 Vancouver Sun Run: 47:29
2003 Canucks Fan Run 49:54
2004 Fall Classic 51:13
2005 Vancouver Sun Run 52:18
2006 Run For Canada 54:44
2008 Fall Classic 50:59
I didnt do a timed run in 2007. Sad. But look at that time from this weekend. Just off my all-time personal best times some 5 1/2 yrs older. Awesome.
The training is paying off, LA Weight Loss has taken the pounds off, and I’m thinking maybe a sub 1:50:00 is possible again for the Team Diabetes Walt Disney World Half Marathon.
Here are some of my previous Half Marathon times:
2003 First Half Half Marathon: 1:49:07
2003 Edmonton Race the Twilight: 1:48:48
2003 Royal Victoria Half Marathon: 1:54:02
2004 First Half Half Marathon: 1:52:07
2004 Scotiabank Half Marathon: 1:54:13
We’ll see .. I definitely want to crank it up and get close to 4hrs for Team Diabetes Easter Island Marathon in June. My personal best now stands at just under 4h30m.
BTW, I found most of these results at Race Headquarters and Winning Time, they have results from all over the Lower Mainland since 1997 archived online.
