Interview Archives: Greg Moore (June, 1999)

Today is the 9th anniversary of the death of race car driver, Greg Moore.

On October 31, 1999, I was sitting in my townhouse in Richmond, getting ready to head out for a radio station Halloween party when I saw this:

Following an early race restart, on lap nine of the race Moore apparently lost control of his car in the exit of turn 2 and spun into the infield grass at more than 200 mph. His car hit an access road and was ‘tripped’ over to strike the infield concrete wall upside-down at unabated speed. Upon impact he suffered massive head, brain, neck, and other internal injuries. Just a few months earlier, he came by the Z95.3 studios and was hanging out playing Star Wars Pod Racer in our lunchroom. He even let us win.

Here’s the interview:

I was on the air at Z95 when Greg lost his life. I was so scared to go on the air and confirm it because I thought somehow, they must have made a mistake. Can’t believe it’s been 9 years.
