World Diabetes Day Countdown: 2 weeks and 2 days
Posted by buzz in charity, events, team diabetes, world diabetes dayWorld Diabetes Day is November 14.
The biggest push for World Diabetes Day is raising awareness about people living with Diabetes and how we can live a healthier life to avoid Diabetes.
In 2007 and 2008, the theme of World Diabetes Day is Diabetes in Children and Adolescents. Diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases of childhood. Type 1 diabetes is growing by 3% per year in children and adolescents, and at an alarming 5% per year among pre-school children. It is estimated that 70,000 children under 15 develop type 1 diabetes each year (almost 200 children a day). Currently, an estimated 440,000 children live with type 1 diabetes globally. Type 2 diabetes was once seen as a disease of adults but today, it is growing at alarming rates in children and adolescents.
The International Diabetes Federation’s two year focus on children through the World Diabetes Day campaign, aims to increase awareness among parents and caregivers, teachers, healthcare professionals, politicians and the public.

It’s about bringing Diabetes to light.
Nearly 500 monuments around the world will be lit in blue light to add awareness to the cause. Blue lights will be shone on Niagra Falls, the Pyramids at Giza, the Brandenburg Gate, the Duomo in Milano, the London Eye and others. It will be fantastic, just look at some of the photos from the 2007 World Diabetes Day.

In Vancouver, the sails of Canada Place will be bathed in blue on November 14 and you’re being invited to join in the Hoopla on the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery. (The logo is a blue hoop - hoola hoop…)

Ask Google for a Doodle. Google does special designs for special days, the O’s in the Google logo would look great as blue circles.
Follow World Diabetes Day on Twitter @wdd.
Submit a picture to the World Diabetes Day Flickr Group. Make it blue, and in a circle.
Read 24hrs, watch Urban Rush and listen to 95Crave. All 3 outlets have promised support for World Diabetes Day on November 14.
