Just stumbled across this post. I know I'm late to this party, but I'm interested to see so much hate for the Baby Eats. I totally agree, so I'm glad I'm not alone. There's some sort of EXTRA frustration when something that could be so great is just so lame. I've not been to the new incarnation, and I won't bother.

That said, The Rocky Mountain Flatbread Co. across the courtyard is the ONLY place we take our kids (16 months and 3 1/2 years) for dinner. Great food and service. They got the formula right. Make a restaurant that has some stuff for kids to do, not a play area that serves food. Did you know that Sunday/Monday kids can make their own pizzas? My son thinks it's the best thing EVER!

same old place, same old concept, same old approach.
not going back again.
We tried the flatbread place across from them and they have an all wooden play area for kids and quite spacious too. The food is quite delicious and service was EXCELLENT.
just my 2 cents

After a my poor experience with Babyeats I'm not surprised to hear they've had to change their approach. You can change the books cover, but ultimately you're still reading the same story; they won't have my business again.

OMG - I have to agree I was totally shocked by the poor quality of food. The toys however are incredible. They certainly got that right. Don't get me started on the state of the place. I too was very embarrassed when I arranged to meet a group of friends there. It was so incredibly dirty - I guess they should take a hard look at that. I see that Rocky Mountain Flat Bread are opening shortly, I am so relieved to have more choice in our area.

Totally agree with the previous posters.
I went there a few times, each time thinking up an excuse to give them one more chance.
I even emailed the owner Hello AT Babyeats.com
never replied or offered an explanation. The facility was dirty; bits of food everywhere, toys scattered all around. The food, don’t get me started, microwaved. Hard as a rock. The washrooms were dirty with bits of paper towel scattered all over the floor. Felt humiliated bringing my mommy friends there. Babyeats lost another customer!!!!

Would you go to the aquarium or science world every day, like your favourite coffee shop? I do believe the aquarium is subsidized by charitable donations and have over 300 volunteers and that Science is sponsored by Telus!
Come on, yes babyeats has a few problems which I believe the owner is working on but as one of the few places I can go with my two and relax with piece of mind, we do really need to support a mum like the rest of us. Anybody who thinks that they can get all that for free is living a fantasy life. Has anyone been to Gator Pit lately? I went there and spent $16 just to get them in. Food choice was hot dogs and pizza which children obviously love but they love candy too!

All the parents of young children that I know who live in Lynn Valley were very excited to see that it was going to be opening last year. The buzz for this place was enormous! Our family showed up there on the second day it was open, at 5:30 pm and the owner was in the process of closing the restaurant for the evening due to a slow afternoon. My hubby and I wondered if she realized that most families with toddlers are home in the afternoon because it's nap time! The owner told us that they were in the process of cleaning up for the day, but that they could give us some food to go. So we bought over $30 of food for 2 adults and had a picnic in the playground at the local school. My sandwich was ROCK hard. The restaruant was only open for 1 day and the food was already stale.
I know that the owner is open to feedback and I have been back since. The food, however remains a problem. I haven't been back in 2009, but I've been told that the fee for parents has been removed (It's a bit much to pay someone else so that I can supervise my own children). My children hate the food but love the toys. They are almost 3 and 18 months old. It's organic and healthy and let me tell you that when the toys are exciting, healthy food is the last thing a picky toddler wants. Why are their onions in the macaroni and cheese? I think that this place should offer healthy food for parents who are in to that and have children who will eat anything. Those of us with picky eaters would like a bit of KD on the menu.
I have to say, for us, we have found that going for coffee has been relaxing for Mom, but only if you go in the morning. Mealtime is difficult as the toys are pretty exciting to toddlers. I think that the owner of this place has a great idea, but has implemented it in the wrong way. She is, however, willing to listen to comments from others, so hopefully she can continue to update it to fit the community.

I just went back and reread this piece for the first time in a while and wanted to point something out..

$125 for a babyeats membership is MORE than either a Science World or Vancouver Aquarium FAMILY membership.

Which would you rather your child spent some time exploring?
