PlentyofFish.com is worth $10M a year, according to a recent article in the NY Times. Markus Frind, the Vancouver based creator, works about 10 hours a week. Nice. Markus doesnt really have to do much other than maintain the servers and make sure the website is online, all the content is created by the users. The more users, the more the content, the more content, the more users - it’s not a vicious cycle, it’s a brilliant cycle. That’s what social networking sites crave, they create the place where people congregate, the people create the content that keeps them coming back. Facebook works the same way. I’m not really wanting to create a social network here, but I am looking for some help. I have hundreds of blogs I read each day, entertainment, food, news, local, tech etc. but I dont have a good photography blog. Something basic. I bought the Panasonic FZ18 as a Christmas present for myself, and I’m still trying to make it work. So, which photo blogs do you read? For that matter, which other blogs do you read that you’d like to spread the word about? No personal pimping here, this is an old fashioned word-of-mouth, tell-two-friends-and-so-on type of post. I’ve got more than a few websites on these here internets. For 12 years I’ve been writing about technology and hosting a radio feature called cyberbuzz. Currently it airs across Canada, but has also aired in Africa, Australia and Europe. I put most of my tech pieces over there, including archives of my radio features, columns for 24hrs and magazines. Today I’ll double post one here for you.
This weekend its flight crews vs bloggers vs backpackers vs celebrity lookalikes vs chefs vs cab drivers. Is it easy to jump off the Empire State Building? No. It’s not because of the high angled fence around the top - that’s easy to scale - it’s the people holding on to you that makes it tough. The Blog According to Buzz. Spread the word, ya heard?.
Supersize? Cheese? Appetizer? Dessert? No wonder we’re big fat fatties, restaurants are making it “cheaper” to eat more. Over the next week and a half, you’ll notice another round of decent upselling with Dine Out Vancouver hitting the city’s restaurants. It was launched as a way to get people to visit restaurants during the lull after the Christmas holidays. The bait is pretty good too, a chance to eat 3 course meals at some high end fancy pants restaurants for $15/$25/$35. If you’re taking the restos up on their offer, I’m sure you’ll find those aren’t the only “deals” on the menu. They’ll have some $45 and $55 prix fixe options as well. Oh, and don’t forget the wine pairings, they’ll serve that up for an extra $5 - $10 a course. The press releases and websites will all trumpet a chance for a couple to sample some fine food for about $50, but once you’re tempted by the seared ahi tuna instead of the mixed greens, the Joie Noble Blend pairing instead of still water, the tax and tip - you’re lucky to get out for less than $100. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, I’m just saying Dine Out can be like a trip to Costco - all you want is a big ass jar of peanut butter, but you walk out with a tv, pool table, dvd player and 100lb bag of potatoes. 95Crave Show Notes - 01.15.08Posted by: buzz in 95crave, celeb news, geek, show notes, television, websiteHere's what's on the menu today: - CraveFX is hot, right out of the box! Already Shannon won $2500 with Nat and Drew this morning, and we're already up to $1500 for the next play at 5:15 this afternoon. Ever wonder what it's like to win big bucks on the radio? Check out this video. - If you like it when your boys talk nerdy, check out the announcements made by Steve Jobs today at MacWorld. - American Idol is back tonight. Christian Louboutin will be on Oprah on Friday. - They've cancelled The World Series and Stanley Cup Playoffs, and unions can cancel Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives too. - The Britney stuff gets crazier, crazier and crazier. I want to just leave it, but I can't - sorry. - Tom Cruise is gone Katie, gone. For that matter, Katie Holmes is gone too. - Madonna wants to do the SuperBowl. - Do you play a lot of Scrabulous on Facebook? It might be coming to an end. - The Golden Globes were axed because of the Writers' Strike. However, the AVN Awards went out because pr0n has no writers! Lol. With no red carpet to critique, the bloggers took to critiquing the .. um .. "hardwood" of the AVN show. Those are Oprah’s words from 3 years ago. This is Tom Cruise’s Scientology video from 2006. Glossary: “What is a cult, Alex?” Dude, keep your ethics to yourself, and get off my couch. The Blog According to Buzz. Spread the word, ya heard?.
That’s about it for me. I’ve long jumped the Facebook shark. Too many app spams. Too many people I don’t “know” on my friends list. I reconnected with the friends I was looking for, and don’t have anyone else I need to find. It’s just kinda slowed down for me - except for playing Scrabulous. Now, that might be taken away. 95Crave used to be called Z95, back in the day. While we’ve changed our name, our history dictates we do some similar things - like a sound effect contest. Back in the day, it was ZFX. Today, it is CraveFX. We play a sound, you say it what it is, you win. Simple. Now we’ve all heard thousands of people win things on the radio, they sound excited, but what’s really going on over there as they win a house, win a car, win thousands of dollars? A couple of years ago, some guys videotaped themselves calling in to play ZFX. The following clip is a house full of half naked college boys losing it when their pal wins. (Even though he said on air when he guessed he wasn’t going to split it) Awesome. So, listen to 95 Crave every weekday at 7:15a, 10:15a, 1:15p and 5:15p to play Crave FX - and keep the camera rolling. The Blog According to Buzz. Spread the word, ya heard?
