Sex and the City was an organic hit. It launched and gradually grew in viewership and pop culture influence.

With the writers and creators of that tv series split between two network versions this year (Lipstick Jungle and Cashmere Mafia), they’re trying to recapture the magic to fill the void left by SATC.

But that’s the problem, they’re trying.

The original was big because it was was it was. We fell in love with it gradually, it wasn’t jammed down our throats. These new shows are like a new girlfriend finding out you still long for your ex, so she tries to be exactly like her.

No, it’s over, that ship has sailed. We’ve moved on. We want something new.

Still, Lucy Liu is trying her damndest to be Carrie Bradshaw.

lucy liu tries hard

Lucy, I knew Carrie Bradshaw, you are no Carrie Bradshaw, stop trying so hard. You’re going to hurt yourself.

The Blog According to Buzz. Spread the word, ya heard?.

  1. Carrie was always the most annoying character on that show for me. I was a total Miranda-Charlotte hybrid. Clothing as costume can be beautiful until you become an imitation or a parody… both of which this seems to be.

All the SATC imitators are annoying, anyway… they don’t have the self-deprecation of the original, and they’ve replaced it with this weird kind of self-consciousness.

  2. Amen Buzz! First thing I thought when I saw the ad for Cashmere Mafia was, “Sex In the City Wannabe Nevergonnabe”. Moving on. SJP rocked the house on Project Runway. Love that Bitten stuff. If only we could get it in Canada dammit!

I think Lipstick Jungle is actually a pretty great show.. If people forget about the Sex and The City comparisons and give it a fair chance .. i think it will be hugely successful !!
