CBC’s Test the Nation goes next Sunday night, January 20 @ 8p.

We received some final instructions today, notably flight times, hotel stuff and the question each one of the 36 members of Team Blogger wanted to know. Can we live blog?

No.

I guess 36 geeks hammering away at a keyboard and taking self portraits with Wendy Mesley would be distracting to the whole show. Actually, they have a legit excuse - Wifi sucks in the studio and Blackberries interfere with the remote devices we’ll be using to answer the questions.

samatha beeWe did get some good news out of the email, though. Each team will have a celebrity cheerleader joining them, we’re getting Daily Show correspondent Samantha Bee! (guess she’s got some free time with the WGA strike and all) Samantha is a good old fashioned maple syrup swigging Canuck and will be a welcomed addition to our squad.

We tape the show at 7p-9p EST, and it will air at 8p-10p in most time zones. This should make for a fun Sunday night. I finish the show at 9 and have to be on a flight home at 10:40.

It’s gonna be tight, but I have to be back home to take Le Grand Zizou to Aquaman class (swimming lessons) on Mondays. Can’t disappoint the kid!

I hope you’ll watch and cheer on Team Blogger. Whoever scores the highest from all the teams scores a $5000 voucher for a vacation. w00t!

We’re encouraged to have our wardrobe on the show match what we wear when we blog at home. I’m usually in pj’s and a tshirt. Can I really wear that on national tv? Hmmm .. might have to do it.

I will need a slogan for a new tshirt, gotta do it up nerd style. Choices so far are:

  • I’m Blogging This
  • Team Blog
  • I’m A Blogebrity
  • Bloggable a la Miss 604
  • a plain old plug with CYBERBUZZ.COM

Welcome to the weekend, Loverboys!

    - The real shame behind the cancellation of the Golden Globes telecast this weekend? Not being able to bitch about the red carpet fashions.

    - The Naughty But Nice Sex Show is this weekend.  We're a couple months away still from the Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival, but early bird ticket deals end in the next couple of days.

    - Michael Buble is in town for a concert tomorrow here's the review of his Victoria show.

    - Babies! Babies! Babies! Courtney Thorne Smith had one already. Nicole Richie and Christina Aguilera are in the stirrups and screaming right now.

Mom, you don’t need to read this entry, please.

You’ve no doubt heard about 2 Girls 1 Cup. Today, there is a sequel, 4 Girls Finger Painting.

Warning. These are videos featuring naked women and feces. And eating it. They are NASTY.

The fun part is that people are making reaction videos. They turn their webcam on and make videos of themselves watching the nasty video.

Ceara K and I made a video of ourselves watching the new video. Warning, it takes almost a minute until our reaction starts, and we do swear. There’s nothing ganky in the video below, it’s just me and Ceara watching other people.

Good times.

I’m kinda curious, even though this entry is labelled NSFW, did you just close your office door, turn down your speakers and look over your shoulder to watch it at work? Or did you make a mental note and you’re now at home and ready to go?

I was off to the Passport Office today to get papers for myself and Le Grand Zizou to head to France this spring. (Okay, Jen’s coming too. She got her passport last year before the crush)

I filled out the forms online, got the pictures guaranteed, printed off the forms, packed a lunch, a tent, some video material and headed down to the Richmond Passport Office.

Problem #1. When I Googled “Richmond Passport Office” I got an address on Saba Rd. When I got to said address, there was no Passport Office, but there was a nice little Passport Photo Place. Asked the little man where it was, and he told me they moved around the corner, on Cooney Rd. Too bad for him, the new place was about 7 blocks away, I bet his drive-by business isnt what it used to be.

So I whipped over to the new place and saw the rows and rows of chairs and people sitting in them and thought “Ugh.” But good news, they have a couple pre-screeners to take your money, and check your forms so you don’t waste a day waiting only to find out you misspelled your name.

Who would misspell their own name? Me.

Problem #2. My middle name is MCKAY. Pronounced Muh-Kye. It’s my Godfather’s name. I’ve always spelled it McKay. Well, I guess when I filled out my Passport form 5 years ago, they assumed the capital “K” meant a new word, so it appears as MC KAY on my old Passport. I wrote it out MCKAY in my application. Hmmm. Alarms and bells and whistles start going off in the office.

When using the speedy renewal form, everything MUST be identical in the two applications. After rooting around in my bag, I found my birth certificate. It also had my name as MC KAY. Okay, so I guess I don’t know how to spell my own name.

I ask the screening agent if I can just fill out a new form and all will be right in the world. She checks with a manager, isn’t sure and doesnt totally process my forms. I will have to see the agent, she says.

Great. I come all the way down and I misspell my name, and it’s a big deal. While I’m waiting for my number to be called, I decide to fill out new forms and spell/misspell my middle name the way it is “legally.”

I get to the agent, explain the screw up. She says “no problem,” uses my new handwritten forms, takes my money and sends me on my way.

I didnt need the tent, didnt need the lunch, and only ended up watching about 20 minutes of Californication on my Creative Zen Vision: W.

Kewl. New passports in 3-4 weeks. Big vacation to France in 2 months.
