Bif Naked has Cancer.

I write it with a capital “C” because I’m sure that’s how it sounds when they tell you.

“You have Cancer.”

You won The Lottery. You get Married. I’m Pregnant. You have Cancer.

Important, life changing events get capital letters.

“I went into my doctor for a checkup and he immediately sent me for tests, including a mammogram, which indicated a high possibility of cancer. From there things have gone at what seems like light speed: biopsy, blood tests, cancer clinic. It’s been two weeks from being completely healthy to cancer patient with surgery, radiation and chemotherapy scheduled.” [link]

Bif is 36.

My grandmother was well into her 60s when she was diagnosed with the disease. She fought it and won. I’m sure Bif can do the same.

I interviewed her about 12 years ago and I asked her what her favourite chocolate bar was. She said Eat-More because it would last an entire SkyTrain ride to New West and back. I can’t find that interview, so check this one out from Lilith Fair.

Bif was also the person I stood beside to ring in 2000 as she performed at our radio station’s Z2K event at the Commodore Ballroom. A more positive, quirky, cute and loving punk you will never meet.
