It’s the final day of Nat and Drew’s Foodbank FillUp. All week we’ve been broadcasting from Safeway locations across Metro Vancouver collecting food and money and raising awareness for the plight of those using Foodbanks in our community.
We’ve heard stories of new Canadians struggling to get their life going. We’ve heard about Olympic athletes using Foodbanks while they train to represent their country. We’ve heard about seniors without pensions, single parent families struggling with disease.. the list goes on, the theme is consistent. These people don’t want to be in Foobank lineups, they just are in Foodbank lineups.
So we raised a lot of money and collected a bunch of cans this week. Big deal.
Here’s how you can help every.single.time.you.shop:
Every grocery store across the city has a Foodbank box sitting by their door. You can pick up 1 extra can of soup or beans or tuna each time you do the shopping. Think about it, that would be 50cans a year or TWO CASES of food. Wow!
When you get to the til, rip off a SHARE SOME BC GOODNESS COUPON. They’re staring you in the face everytime you pay for your groceries. It’s $2 added to your bill. The money stays at the store as a credit for the local Foodbank so when they come it to do their shopping money is sitting there waiting for them. That could be a $100 donation at the end of the year to the Foodbank that certainly wouldnt feel like $100.
There is not 1 Foodbank for all of Metro Vancouver, each community has their own so when you make a donation to your local foodbank, you are helping people in your community. Your neighbours, and I literally mean your neighbours.
It’s Christmas, it’s better to give than receive. Well you know what? You can have that giving feeling all year long and it won’t be a pain to do at all.
Thanks for making another Foodbank FillUp a huge success. Here’s wishing we won’t have to do this next year.
